Dearest Funke Akindele,
Let me begin where the truth lives: there is undeniable grace upon your head. A rare, almost spiritual alignment of talent, instinct, discipline, & divine favour. Whatever this winning formula is that you carry, this unmistakable signature that runs through your work, it works.
Effortlessly. Consistently. Powerfully. And since it works so well, it is not broken. There is absolutely no need to fix it.
When it comes to film, movies, drama, storytelling, emotional architecture, you know your onions. You have the midas touch! Completely.
You are not an accident. You are not hype.
You are the real McCoy.
Back to back.
To back.
To back.
To back.
Your productions have stormed past the billion-naira mark with an authority that leaves no room for debate. Omo Ghetto: The Saga. Battle on Buka Street. A Tribe Called Judah. The evergreen Jenifa franchise that redefined pop culture & street language. Each one a cultural moment. Each one a statement. At this point, it is no exaggeration to say that anything you touch doesn’t just turn to gold, it becomes institutional gold.
You are a winner by many miles.
So let me say this, clearly & without reservation: K.U.D.O.S.
Thank you for entertaining us. Thank you for respecting your audience. Thank you for never trivialising our emotions or insulting our intelligence. Thank you for understanding that joy, laughter, pain, healing, & even tears, are sacred currencies.
Now, to Behind the Scene.
I must confess, I was literally carried to the cinema. The Maryland Mall experience almost broke my resolve. A power failure delayed us by over an hour. The place was mad hot. The convenience was a disaster, unbearably smelly, uncomfortable. I nearly regretted stepping out of my house.
But then… the film began.
And from the very 1st scene, something shifted.
Anger dissolved. Frustration evaporated.
What followed was cinematic redemption.
What I witnessed was not just a film, it was an emotional takeover.
The acting was raw, fearless, & breathtaking.
The storyline was deep, layered, & uncomfortably honest.
The production quality was elite.
The cinematography was international-standard.
Every metric. Every yardstick. Every critical lens, 7 stars across the board.
This film didn’t just move me, it reached inside me. My eyes were watery. And this is coming from someone who has often believed that our local productions still leave much to be desired. Not here. Not this time.
Everyone in that cinema hall, everyone, was swept off their feet. You could feel it. The silence. The gasps. The collective sighs. The emotional surrender. From the biggest names to the smallest roles, every actor showed up & delivered. No passengers. No fillers. Just commitment, vulnerability, & truth.
Funke, you struck gold again. Deep gold.
And yes, let the record show: the ₦20,000 ticket for 2, was good money, exceptionally well spent.
So once again, I salute you. Not casually. Not politely. But deeply.
Thank you for touching my heart. Thank you for reminding us what Nigerian cinema can be when excellence is non-negotiable. Behind the Scene is not just a film, it is an experience.
One I will recommend loudly, proudly, & repeatedly.
Kudos, Funke Akindele.
Take your flowers.
You have earned every single petal.
