In this exclusive interview, gospel music minister De Levite opens up about his journey into music, the inspiration behind his songs, and what fans can expect from his partnership with CityBoy Record Entertainment.
Tell us about yourself. Who is De Levite?
My name is Onah Ikechukwu Levi, professionally known as De Levite. I am a gospel music minister whose mission is to spread the message of God through music. Everything I do is centred on bringing people closer to God and inspiring faith through my songs.
Why did you choose the name “De Levite”?
I chose the name De Levite because I believe I am a messenger of the Most High God. In the Bible, the Levites were dedicated to serving God, especially through worship and ministry. The name reflects my calling and my commitment to using music to glorify God.
When did you discover that music was your calling?
I discovered that music was my calling in 2006. From that moment, I knew God had given me the gift and responsibility to minister through music. Since then, I have remained committed to sharing His message with the world.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
One of my greatest musical influences is Lucky Dube. His music carried powerful messages that inspired and transformed lives. I admire how he used his talent to speak truth and inspire hope.
What inspired your single Onye Amuma?
Onye Amuma was inspired by what I witnessed at Evangelist Ebuka Obi’s Adoration Ground. The experiences there deeply touched my spirit and became the foundation for the song’s message.
What’s the story behind the song?
The song is a message of encouragement to the man of God. It reminds him to keep moving forward without looking back or becoming distracted by what people say about him. If a servant of God pays too much attention to criticism and negativity, it can affect the work God has called him to do. The song encourages him to remain focused on God’s assignment because God’s purpose is greater than the opinions of people.
Your latest single is Chinwe Igwe. What message should listeners take away after hearing it?
The central message of Chinwe Igwe is that there is absolutely nothing God cannot do. No one can take your life without God’s permission. I want everyone who listens to the song to trust God completely, remain steadfast in their faith, and hold firmly to Him regardless of life’s challenges.
What is your favourite part of creating music?
Music is spiritual. I don’t create songs using a fixed method because inspiration can come at any time. Sometimes a song comes while I’m travelling on the road, sometimes while I’m praying, and other times even in my dreams. I simply remain open to God’s inspiration whenever it comes.
What can fans expect from the De Levite and CityBoy Record partnership?
Fans should expect nothing but the very best. This partnership is focused on producing quality gospel music that will bless lives, inspire people, and spread the message of Christ to a wider audience.
What can your fans look forward to for the rest of the year?
My fans should expect more uplifting and spirit-filled music that will put smiles on their faces, strengthen their faith, and bring them closer to God. There are exciting projects on the way, and I appreciate everyone for their continued love and support.
Where can fans listen to your music?
Fans can listen to my music on Audiomack, Apple Music, Boom Play, or Spotify.
