Yesterday, Friday, August 28, 2026, London witnessed the 2nd & decidedly elegant stanza in the unfolding love story of Makanjuola & Latoya Senbanjo, as the couple formally sealed their union in a beautiful civil ceremony at the historic Chelsea Old Town Hall on King’s Road, London.
It was a fittingly sophisticated setting for a union whose story has, from the very beginning, carried an unmistakable air of elegance, warmth & old-fashioned family values.
And with yesterday’s ceremony, what began several weeks ago in Lagos as an intimate family introduction has now acquired the full force of legal recognition.
Latoya, the gorgeous daughter of Olori Aderonke Ademiluyi-Ogunwusiis officially Mrs. Senbanjo. More significantly, she has now become, by marriage, the newest member of the distinguished Senbanjo family.
THE 1ST STANZA: A ROSE OF INESTIMABLE VALUE
The story began quietly in Lagos many weeks ago, when the f1st stanza of the celebrations was written in the most charming fashion.
It was a small but remarkably elegant introduction ceremony, attended by a select gathering of family, friends & distinguished personalities, among them His Imperial Majesty, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, the Ooni of Ife, & Her Excellency, Mrs. Toyin Saraki, former 1st Lady of Kwara State & wife of former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.
It was at that intimate gathering that the Senbanjo family came to formally declare their intentions. And they did so with a metaphor that was as beautiful as it was memorable.
They had, they said in essence, discovered a beautiful flower, a rose of inestimable value, & had come to seek permission to pluck it. The response from Olori Aderonke Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi & her family was gracious & unequivocal.
Permission was gladly given. And with that, the journey began.
LONDON: WHERE THE PROMISE BECAME OFFICIAL
Yesterday, the story moved seamlessly from Lagos to London. Against the refined backdrop of Chelsea Old Town Hall, one of London’s celebrated ceremonial landmarks, Makanjuola & Latoya entered a new chapter of their lives together.
The atmosphere was intimate but distinguished; the gathering carefully chosen, the mood celebratory without losing its elegance. It was the sort of occasion where the setting needed little embellishment because the occasion itself carried enough significance.
Family & cherished friends gathered to witness the moment when the promise made in Lagos became an official union under British law.
Among those present were Erelu Olajumoke, James Akinyemi, Mrs. Toyin Saraki, representatives from the office of the Ooni of Ife, Prince Kamari Ademiluyi, Prince Bolu Ademiluyi, the groom’s proud parents, Mr. & Mrs. Senbanjo, & Mrs. Nike Animashaun, alongside several other distinguished guests.
It was London at its most charming, polished, intimate & effortlessly sophisticated. And yet, for all its significance, yesterday was not the finale.
Far from it. It was merely Stanza 2.
NOW, LAGOS AWAITS THE GRAND FINALE
With London having done its part so beautifully, attention now turns inevitably to Lagos.
For sometime in October 2026, the celebrations are expected to return home for what promises to be the grandest & most spectacular chapter of them all, the much-anticipated Lagos society wedding.
If the 1st stanza was intimate & elegant, and the 2nd a beautifully appointed London civil ceremony, then the 3rd promises to be the crescendo: a magnificent Lagos celebration bringing together family, royalty, friends & the glittering constellation that makes Lagos society weddings such irresistible theatre.
There is something particularly lovely about the progression of this celebration. It began in Lagos with a family seeking permission to pluck a precious rose.
It travelled across continents to London, where that rose officially became a Senbanjo. And now, the story is coming home.
October beckons.
And if the 1st two stanzas are anything to go by, Lagos may want to clear its social calendar.
Because the 3rd stanza is shaping up to be the grandest, most glamorous & most anticipated chapter of the Senbanjo wedding story yet.
The rose has been chosen. The promise has been made. London has made it official.
Now Lagos awaits the celebration.
