The Dangerous Aloofness of The Oracle: A Quiet Game of Power, Where Silence Roars Loudest!

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Obafemi Hamzat

In Lagos, power does not always announce itself. Sometimes, it withdraws, strategically, deliberately, & in that withdrawal, it becomes even more formidable.

At the centre of this unfolding theatre stands a man whose silence has, over time, become one of the most potent instruments of political control: Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Oracle is watching. And more tellingly, he is not speaking.

But make no mistake, this is not absence. This is presence in its most refined, almost unnerving form.

Beneath the polished surface of Lagos politics, a quiet rebellion is taking shape. Not the loud, reckless kind that courts public spectacle, but a calculated, almost scholarly defiance, executed in hushed meetings, coded conversations, & strategic alignments.

Within the highly influential Governance Advisory Council (GAC), a faction, small but emboldened, appears to be testing the very architecture of power that has defined Lagos for decades.

Their objective is neither declared nor documented, yet its outline is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore: a subtle recalibration of influence… away from the man who has long held the master key.

It is delicate. It is dangerous. And it is deeply intentional.

At the heart of this silent manoeuvring sits Dr. Obafemi Kadri Hamzat, a figure whose political journey reads like a manual in disciplined loyalty.

Measured. Unassuming. Consistent.

To many within the GAC, Hamzat is not just a candidate; he is a continuation, a bridge between legacy & ambition. The son of a revered insider, a man who has endured, deferred, & delivered without public dissent. In a system that prizes loyalty as currency, he is, by all visible metrics, richly endowed.

And so, within certain corridors, the conclusion has been quietly drafted: he should be next.

But Lagos has never been governed by conclusions written in whispers.

Because above every permutation, every alignment, every carefully orchestrated consensus, floats the unpredictable gravity of Tinubu’s will.

And here lies the tension.

The Oracle has refused, pointedly, to anoint. Not yet!

No nod.

No signal.

No leak that carries conviction.

Just silence.

A silence that is beginning to choke the very actors attempting to read it.

What is playing out is not indecision. It is orchestration.

By remaining deliberately distant, Tinubu has turned ambition into exposure. Every move now reveals its author. Every whisper carries a signature. Every alignment becomes a declaration, whether intended or not.

Those pushing subtly for a Hamzat emergence may believe they are guiding the process.

In reality, they may simply be stepping into the light, exactly as designed.

Because power, at this level, is not always exercised by action. Sometimes, it is enforced by restraint.

History offers perspective.

When Akinwunmi Ambode found himself politically isolated, there was no dramatic confrontation, no public dismantling. Just a quiet withdrawal of backing, & the structure adjusted itself accordingly.

No noise. Just outcome.

That precedent lingers like a warning.

Today, the pressure is building, carefully, incrementally, on the Oracle to “speak.” To validate. To endorse. To conclude.

But those who understand the language of Tinubu’s politics know this: pressure does not move him. If anything, it refines his timing.

And timing, in his playbook, is everything.

So while Obafemi Kadri Hamzat may appear, to many, as the inevitable choice… inevitability in Lagos politics is often the most fragile illusion.

Because in one moment, one calculated, almost offhand gesture, the entire equation can shift.

Names can disappear.

Structures can realign.

Certainties can collapse.

And a new reality can emerge, fully formed, uncontested, & final.

This is the true weight of the Oracle’s aloofness.

It is not passive.

It is not uncertain.

It is power, distilled to its purest, most unnerving essence.

A quiet, almost invisible show of dominance that keeps everyone moving… but no one arriving.

And so Lagos waits, uneasy, watchful, suspended between speculation & inevitability.

Not because there are no answers.

But because the only answer that matters… has not yet been spoken.

And until it is, every move remains provisional. Every ambition, conditional. Every certainty, dangerously premature.

In this game, silence is not a void.

It is the loudest statement of all.

Hmmmmmm…
